A major exhibition on women artists of the seventeenth century: it was announced yesterday and will be held in Milan, at the Palazzo Reale, between December 2020 and March 2021. It is an unprecedented proposal, one that will be curated by Alain Tapié (former director of the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Caen and the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Lille) and Anna Maria Bava (MiBACT art historian official). The exhibition will be titled The Ladies of the Baroque: works by artists such as Artemisia Gentileschi, Elisabetta Sirani, Lavinia Fontana, Sofonisba Anguissola, and Fede Galizia will be on display.
The idea is to bring out fully the life and art of already known female artists, such as those mentioned above, alongside those who still await specific studies: the names are those of Barbara longhi, Diana Ghisi Scultori, Orsola Maddalena Caccia, Giovanna Garzoni, Virginia da Vezzo, Plautilla Bricci, and Ginevra Cantafoli. The exhibition (of which further details are not yet known) will be part of the palimpsest Creativa 2020. Women’s Talents, presented in September 2019 by the City of Milan: this is a multidisciplinary program dedicated to women’s creativity and will run throughout 2020 in the Lombard capital.
