A giant lace work on a building: this is one of the highly recognizable creations by Warsaw-born street artist NeSpoon in France, not far from Montpellier, in Castelnau Le-Lez.
The work, which is inspired by theancient French lace tradition, can be seen on a large wall of the Silk Residence residential complex. It was completed in September, in fine weather, and now the trees that partly covered its visibility, stripping it of its leaves, have given it totally to everyone’s gaze.
Founded in 2009, NeSpoon has made lace its hallmarkbecause it “brings harmony, balance and a sense of natural order.” Before she started making these creations, the artist thought of lace as something old related to her grandmothers, but then since she started working with ceramics she realized that one of the most popular ways to decorate it is to put a lace on fresh clay so as to create the pattern. Only later did she think that these “embroidered” motifs were also beautiful to make on their own, without the need for pottery. And that’s when lace became his irreplaceable model for making amazing street art and installations all over the world.
