The Septimia Musa mosaic returns to theAntiquarium Turritano in Porto Torres, following a major and delicate restoration. In September 2020, the mosaic work in fact left its location in the Sardinian museum venue until now, and thus has not been visible to the public for more than a year and a half. On Tuesday, May 24, it will return to its home and, to allow for the extraordinary work of transportation and placement, the Turritan Antiquarium will be closed to the public all day.

Discovered in the 1960s at Balai in Porto Torres, the mosaic art find, made of polychrome tiles, adorned a tomb. It is in fact a funerary mosaic dedicated to the deceased Septimia Musa, as stated in the inscription placed by her husband and children Esychius and Valeria. The find turns out to be early Christian because of the terminology of the inscriptions, as well as the symbols, namely christograms and doves. The mosaic was expanded and completed with one dedicated to their father Dionysius by their sons. The tombs of the two spouses were close and parallel, covered by masonry covered by the funerary mosaic, and, based on comparisons with similar funerary mosaics, they have been dated to the second half of the 4th century or early 5th century.
