During archaeological excavations conducted by the company AdArte Srl - Rimini, theleft wing of the cryptoporticus of the Temple of Fortune was discovered yesterday morning in the area of theformer Filanda di Bosone di Fano, where the remains of the Roman Theater are located. This is animportant discovery that constitutes a significant piece of the history of the city of Vitruvius.

Announcing the discovery was the Soprintendenza Archeologica Belle Arti e Paesaggio delle Marche itself, via its Facebook page. “Today we are not in our skin anymore, we have to give you a really sensational news! During excavations [...]the left wing of the cryptoporticus of the Temple of Fortune has been found. In the photo you can see that some of the radial septa that make up the structure are beginning to re-emerge from the ground.”

Fano, the ancient Fanum Fortunae owes its name to the goddess Fortuna and its Temple was built as a sign of thanksgiving following the victory of the Romans, led by Marcus Livy Salinator and Gaius Claudius Nero, in the battle fought in 207 B.C. along the Metaurus River against the Carthaginians, at whose head was Hannibal’s brother, Asdrubale Barca. The first settlement developed right around the Temple of Fortune.

Enthusiastic also Mayor Massimo Seri, who immediately shared the wonderful news on his Facebook profile.
So the goal now is to secure and preserve the site to make it accessible and to allow citizens to visit the site. The administration is working in collaboration with the Superintendence to make this possible for the summer period.
