Florence, at the Uffizi reconstructed the unity of conception of an important pair of panels by Lucas Cranach the Elder (Kronach, 1472 - Weimar, 1553): Adam and Eve, the famous depiction of the progenitors executed by the German master, has been reunited in a single frame, visually and aesthetically restoring the unity of the original composition. The intervention, carried out for the new rooms dedicated to Flemish painters on the second floor of the Gallery, also allows for the recomposition of theTree of Knowledge, the two halves of which were distributed between the two panels.
Cranach and his workshop painted more than fifty versions of the Adam and Eve theme, but the Uffizi panels were designed to stand close together, in dialogue, as evidenced by the gazes and facial expressions of the protagonists. The new frame, modeled after the black ebony frames typical of central and northern European collections, not only emphasizes this relationship but also protects the works with conservation glass.
An operation that restores to the public the original vision of the biblical scene and the fall of humanity, strengthening the narrative sense of the work and the visual impact of two absolute masterpieces of the German Renaissance.
