Pontremoli Barocca returns: reservations open for 2025 edition

On April 5 and 6, 2025, Pontremoli Barocca, the journey through villas, palaces and churches of the Lunigiana Baroque, returns. A weekend of guided tours between the countryside and the historic center, involving students and the entire community. The event inaugurates the Sharing Tuscany program.

The refined and opulent atmospheres of the Pontremoli Baroque are back in the spotlight in Lunigiana with the new edition of Pontremoli Barocca, the event that, through a tour of churches, villas and palaces, normally not accessible to the public, recounts the Golden Age of art in Pontremoli. Reservations for the tours, scheduled for Saturday, April 5 and Sunday, April 6, 2025, have been open since Feb. 1 on the event’s official website.

The two-day event, curated by the associations Sigeric and Farfalle in Cammino, will take in the Lunigiana countryside and the historic center of Pontremoli, offering visitors an immersion in the history and architecture of the area. The event is made possible through collaboration with scholars, owners of historic homes, municipalities and the Diocese of Massa Carrara-Pontremoli. The program: villas, palaces and an entire town in celebration

The weekend will open with the Grand Saturday of the Villas, dedicated to the noble residences of Lunigiana. Three historic estates will be open for visits: Villa Dosi Delfini and Villa Pavesi Negri-Baldini, located near Pontremoli, and Villa Ruschi Pavesi di Teglia, in Mulazzo. These buildings, usually closed to the public, will offer an exclusive glimpse into the aristocratic life of the past, including frescoes, Italian gardens and sumptuous salons.

Sunday, on the other hand, will be dedicated to the historic center of Pontremoli, revealing its past as a noble and flourishing city. Seven symbolic places will open their doors: Palazzo Dosi Magnavacca, Palazzo Pavesi-Ruschi Noceti, Palazzo Zucchi Castellini, Palazzo Vescovile, the striking Teatro della Rosa, the church of San Giacomo d’Altopascio and theOratorio di Nostra Donna. In addition, the first fifty visitors who purchase tickets for the Sunday tours will have access to an exclusive site, unveiled only at the last moment.

The Baroque atmosphere will not be limited to guided tours: the entire city will participate in the event with themed displays, decorated shop windows, and 18th-century-inspired menus in local restaurants. It will be a true journey back in time, engaging the community and visitors in an all-around cultural experience.

Young protagonists and experiential tourism

One of the most significant aspects of Pontremoli Barocca is the active involvement of the younger generation. Organizers are training a group of student-disclosers who will guide visitors to discover the area’s treasures. An opportunity for young people not only to learn about local history, but to become its ambassadors.

"Among the most important and rewarding goals of the Pontremoli Barocca experience is to be able to involve the younger generation as much as possible,“ the organizers explain. ”Not only by adopting free admission for everyone under the age of 18, but also by educating dozens of students and young adults about the awareness and value of the territory in which they live and grow up every day."

Special attention is also paid to accessibility: tickets will be free for those under 18, people with disabilities and their companions, ensuring an inclusive experience open to all.

An event that opens Sharing Tuscany

This year, Pontremoli Barocca will have a special role in the regional tourism scene: the 2025 edition will inaugurate Sharing Tuscany, the annual workshop promoted by the Region of Tuscany and Toscana Promozione Turistica. For the first time, the event will stop in the Lunigiana Tourist Area, bringing sector operators to discover the area’s cultural and tourism potential.

This is further recognition for an initiative that, year after year, grows and establishes itself as a leading event for the enhancement of Lunigiana’s Baroque heritage.
