Giovan Battista Moroni in gigapixels thanks to collaboration between Haltadefinizione and FAI

Haltadefinizione initiated a collaboration with FAI that involved the gigapixel acquisition of a selection of paintings from Bergamo's Palazzo Moroni, including masterpieces by Giovan Battista Moroni.

As part of its historic partnership with the Franco Cosimo Panini publishing house, Haltadefinizione has launched a collaboration with FAI - Fondo per l’Ambiente Italiano that involved thegigapixel acquisition of a selection of paintings from Palazzo Moroni in Bergamo, including the masterpieces of Giovan Battista Moroni.

Images of the paintings housed in Palazzo Moroni are online in the Image Bank of Haltadefinizione’s website, and thanks to the use of sophisticated software and specially developed viewers, users can access a unique experience: by clicking on the images, it is possible to zoom in and explore every detail in a completely new way. This advanced technological approach is intended to offer art lovers and scholars the opportunity to experience a deeper connection with the works, to appreciate their beauty and discover every minute detail.

The acquisition technologies developed by Haltadefinizione make it possible to obtain very high-resolution digital images of the paintings through the union and processing of a large number of individual photographic shots of portions of the same subject, then recomposed thanks to specially designed algorithms. This gives rise to highly detailed images consisting of billions of pixels and capable of showing even the smallest and most imperceptible details of the works being digitized. The images resulting from these sophisticated processes can be enlarged dozens of times without losing definition, and even details that would be invisible to the naked eye such as brush strokes and streaks are visible.

In addition, as part of the project, Haltadefinizione created three replicas of Giovan Battista Moroni’s portraits from the very high definition of the gigapixel images. The replicas are currently on display in the Golden Age Room of Palazzo Moroni, occupying the place of the originals, temporarily on loan for the exhibition at the Gallerie d’Italia in Milan dedicated to the painter.
