On the occasion of the exhibition Middle Ages in Pistoia. Crossroads of Artists between Romanesque and Gothic, running until May 29, 2022 in Pistoia, at the Antico Palazzo dei Vescovi and the Museo Civico, Pistoia Musei presents a podcast series dedicated toPistoian art outside its borders, titled The Spesati. In search of lost art. The protagonists will be Giovanni Pisano ’s Aquila from the Metropolitan Museum in New York; the 1310 Pala del Maestro from the Musée du Petit Palais in Avignon; Nicola Pisano ’s Elevatio animae from the Pushkin Museum in Moscow; and the eburneous tablet of San Jacopo from the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
Starting April 19 through May 10, 2022, the episodes, four in all, will be posted on pistoiamusei.it and major streaming platforms every Tuesday and will be available for free. This first cycle of the podcast Gli Spaesati will offer a journey through the history of Pistoiese paintings and sculptures from the medieval period, now exhibited in museums around the world and in contexts very different from their origin.
The podcasts will have the narrative voice of Lorenzo Cipriani, an art historian who conceived and wrote the project; he will accompany the listener, availing himself of the extraordinary participation of Ugo Pagliai, who has given two authoritative interpretations of his hometown.
Produced in collaboration with Radio Papesse, the podcast is set to expand in the coming months, on the trail of Pistoiese works from other periods.
Wanted and promoted by Pistoia Musei through its Education Department and in line with the cultural policy of director Monica Preti, the project aims to enhance the rich and varied artistic heritage of the Pistoian territory and offer the public new points of view.
